Just writing to say thanks for everything. This was not my first trip to Russia (as you know), but it was certainly the best and most rewarding. Beyond the great programs, music events and touristic outings what made the visit truly memorable was the range of people we met. It’s difficult to list such "intangibles" when justifying travel to supervisors, but they can be vital, and my work has already benefited from your tremendous and generous networking skills. I also want to thank you for translating my talk—a tough job I know, and I’m afraid that due to nervousness I may have neglected to do this publicly. Apologies, if so! From the interesting feedback, I sensed the talk went over well. Hope you had a pleasant return journey and are now enjoying a stressless holiday weekend.
All best, Bret

Ludmilla really did her usual wonderful job in setting everything up both in St. Petersburg and in Moscow and Leon and I were both thrilled that Leon’s Samchillian got so much exposure in both cities. Of course the sightseeing was the icing on the cake and seeing the 10+ cars trains in the Moscow subway coming EVERY minute or so was quite a revelation of what can be done!

Boston, October 2001 – A sunny autumnal city, wonderful people, and music-music-music … Concerts and meetings at Boston University, the opera Der Kaiser von Atlantis by Victor Ullmann, an unforgettable service at Emmanuel Church with Bach’s cantata led by Seiji Ozawa ... Endless conversations about music and everything else with my companions and new American friends … Walks around the city and visits to many sheet music stores—everyone brought home a precious collection of scores … An unbelievable amount of events, new impressions, and emotions were packed into several days … ‘Thank you’ to everybody who created this wonderful project, especially Ludmilla Leibman, the Educational Bridge’s architect and inspiration!
