EDUCATIONAL BRIDGE PROJECT’S 32nd RUSSIAN-AMERICAN FESTIVAL
September 25, 2017
Boston

Dear friends,

The Educational Bridge Project’s 32nd Russian-American festival is celebrating its’
TWENTIETH year! Time flies so fast, and it is hard to believe that our first festival was here, in
Boston, exactly two decades ago, almost to the date – October 23, 1997.

We had wonderful guests – two eminent Russian composers, professors of the St. Petersburg
Conservatory, Boris Tishchenko and Alexander Mnatsakanyan, who gave talks at the BU
Composers’ Forum, had their music performed by the Times Arrow under BU professor,
composer Richard Cornell and ALEA III under conductor Theodore Antoniou, met with the
students of Tufts University Music department organized by John McDonald, spoke with the BU
students about their teacher, Dmitri Shostakovich.

And in the following years Richard Cornell, John McDonald, Theodore Antoniou all went to
Russia for our festivals in St. Petersburg, and the students of Boris Tishchenko and Alexander
Mnatsakanyan came to Boston. I am honored to say that the Bridge has performed its most
important role: it DID connect people from Russia and America through art and education.

And now we are very excited to announce the Educational Bridge Project’s 32nd Annual Russian-
American Festival, Days of Russian Culture in America, which will run from October 16 to
October 27 (or November 4, if everyone gets their visa…….).

Some of the festival participants are known to the Boston audiences: we will have Coloratura
Soprano Maria Lyudko and three Alexanders, who have been here in the previous years:
composer Alexander Radvilovich, conductor Alexander Solovyev, and French Horn player
Alexander Kushnarev.

Young St. Petersburg architect Taisiia Makhova this time will visit architectural firms in Boston
and New York; the youngest participant, 12-year old Maya Solovyeva this time will have fullimmersion
program at the Sharon Music Academy.

St. Petersburg Baritone Alan Starovoitov, will be coming to Boston for the first time. We are
excited to have him on the program of the opening event of the festival on October 16, at 12:20-
1:10 p.m at one of the most beautiful venues – the Marsh Chapel of Boston University where he
will meet with the BU students and sing for them.

I hope to see you there – it is going to be beautiful!

The full schedule is below, and will be updated on our website.
